A HOSPICE is hoping to light up people's lives this Christmas, especially in Shildon.
Butterwick Hospice, Bishop Auckland, is to display a tree in Shildon's town square.
Shildon Town Council has provided the lights for the tree, which will be switched on in a ceremony on Friday, December 1.
People are being invited to brighten up someone's life by leaving a special message.
Leaving the message will cost £1, with proceeds going to the hospice.
Application forms are available from retailers throughout Shildon, the Shildon Housing Office, Shildon Town Council offices or directly from the hospice on (01388) 603003.
All the messages will be displayed and updated from December 1 to December 20 on the weatherproof notice board next to the tree.
The switch-on will begin at 4.30pm and will also mark the launch of the Butterwick appeal along with the start of late-night shopping on a Friday in Shildon leading up to Christmas.
Cards, crafts and calendars will also be on sale
