YOUNGSTERS in a former pit village are being given the chance to try different forms of art at a series of workshops.
Sessions in pottery, drama, writing and dance are being held in Bearpark, Durham, over the next five weeks, in the village's community centre, in Auton Stile.
The workshops are free and are aimed at giving youngsters aged eight and over a taste of art.
The programme, called Arts Attack, is being funded by the RDA small projects fund, and is supported by Durham City Arts as part of the Single Regeneration Budget regeneration scheme for the Lower Deerness Valley.
The programme starts on Saturday, with a pottery workshop led by Sharon Kelly, an American potter who trained in Japan, between 10am and 1pm.
Organiser Douglas Walker said yesterday: "The workshops are free and designed to give a taste of different art forms to the young people of Bearpark and to help them decide what future activities they would like to take part in.
"They are run by professional artists and you don't need any experience.''
