A FISH and chip shop has tasted success by landing a top national award for standards in the industry.
Morley's, at Cheveley Park, on the outskirts of Durham, won the Seafish Friers Quality Award following a tough inspection.
Judges looked at the quality of food, helpfulness of staff and hygiene standards at the shop which will now display the Friers Quality Award symbol.
Morley's is owned by David and Elizabeth Ruffles who also own a shop in Fore Bondgate, Bishop Auckland.
Of 10,000 UK fish and chip shops, less than 250 have won the award, including both shops owned by Mr and Mrs Ruffles.
She said: "There has been a lot of hard work by members of staff behind the scenes to achieve this award.
"We are over the moon about this, but the work doesn't stop here because we will be constantly checked to make sure we are keeping up to standard."
