GLITTERING stars are to set Stockton alight this weekend, when they switch on the town's Christmas lights.
Film sensations Jamie Bell, from Billingham - star of Billy Elliot - and Bobby Power, of There's Only One Jimmy Grimble fame, will bring a sparkle to Stockton's festive celebrations, on Sunday.
Along with the Mayor of Stockton, they will be lighting up the High Street and main shopping areas just after Father Christmas makes his entrance, at around 5.15pm.
He will arrive following music and a fanfare from the King's Division Normandy Band, an electric Christmas light show and a community carnival.
Once the lights have been switched on, a display of fireworks will bring proceedings to a close around 6pm.
The day's programme starts at 2pm, in Stockton High Street, with a feast of family entertainment planned.
From 3pm, there will be a TFM and Magic 1170 radio roadshow, leading up to the big switch-on of the lights at 5.30pm.
Children and football supporters can pick up some top tips on the Brazilian approach to the game from Simon Clifford, president of the International Confederation of Futebal de Salao.
Meanwhile, rides will also be on hand for youngsters to enjoy and there will be Christmas market stalls.
The town's shops will be open from 11am to 5pm.
