A FORMER grammar school master is to give a talk on the restoration of furniture at one of Teesside's "hidden gems".
Ken Bowers is a nationally-renowned restorer of fine and antique furniture and has been responsible for the restoration of several pieces of furniture and a chandelier at Sir William Turner's Hospital, at Kirkleatham.
Mr Bowers rescued the chandelier from a state of almost total ruin following years of neglect and restored it so it now looks as good as when it was made by royal furniture-maker William Kent, in the 1700s.
The event takes place on Sunday, December 3, at 3pm, but the building will be open from 2.30pm, to allow visitors to look around the chapel and the grounds.
Tickets cost £2.50 and are available from Sotheran's of Redcar on (01642) 490401, or Redcar Lecture Society. Tickets bought at the door cost £3.
Proceeds will be divided between the chapel restoration and the Saltburn Pier Preservation Fund
