A day out at the Great Yorkshire Show ended with four men drinking in the centre of Harrogate before getting involved in a fracas in the street, in which a man was punched and kicked.

Harrogate magistrates branded the men's behaviour "disgraceful" yesterday, after watching a video of events in Parliament Street on the evening of July 13, recorded by Harrogate's CCTV system.

The recording showed club doorman Richard Baranovsky being punched repeatedly until he fell to the ground, where he was kicked.

The four pleaded guilty to affray.

Bernard Kent-Gayton, 47, of Simon Close, Holmwood, Bradford, was given a 180-hour community service order and Andrew Thompson, 27, of Industrial Avenue, Birstall, Dewsbury, one of 200 hours.

Daniel Rush, 26, of Westgate Hill Street, Tong, Bradford, was put on probation for a year and ordered to do 100 hours community service.

Andrew Waters, 37, of Reedsdale Gardens, Gildersome, Leeds, was fined £400 and told that he too would have got community service if he had been in better health.

They were told to pay Mr Baranovsky £50 compensation for injuries which included swelling and bruising to his head, jaw, shoulder, elbow and back.

Each was also ordered to pay £115 prosecution costs.
