DETECTIVES have issued descriptions of three men wanted in connection with an armed robbery at a Tyneside post office.
A man wielding a sledgehammer broke the security screen at Crookhill post office, in Ryton, Gateshead, while an accomplice brandished a shotgun, at 5.25pm on Friday.
The sub-post master suffered minor injuries to his hand after being struck, and a woman staff member was treated for shock. A boy customer was said to be "terrified and shocked".
The masked men escaped in a blue Ford Galaxy car, driven by a third man.
The raider carrying the sledgehammer was 5ft 10in and wore a green fleece jacket.
The man with the gun was about 6ft tall, of broad build, wearing a black balaclava and a dark three-quarter length jacket. He spoke with a local accent.
The driver of the getaway car wore a full-face black ski mask. The car was later found in North Close, Ryton, bearing false registration plates.
It was stolen from Spires Lane, Newcastle, on November 8, when it had a taxi sign on it and was collecting a passenger.
The correct registration was P231 YTN and police want to speak to anyone who knows where the car was stored, or who may have seen it.
