THE chief executive of a North-East health trust will be helping to shape the future of the National Health Service.
The Gateshead Health NHS Trust has agreed to a request by the Department of Health to release Chris Reed on secondment.
As part of the NHS implementation plan, national task forces are being set up to support the new NHS Modernisation Board.
Mr Reed's main role will be as the manager of the Access Task Force.
The job of the task force is to ensure improving access for patients across the health care system, in line with NHS plan targets.
This includes access to primary and community care, booking systems for hospitals and hospital waiting times.
Mr Reed said: "This is an exciting time for the NHS and I am looking forward to playing my part in helping to ensure patients have access to the best possible treatment throughout the health service."
During his secondment, which will be for between nine and 12 months, Karen Straughair will be acting chief executive
