UNEMPLOYMENT has fallen in Hartlepool for the ninth successive month.
It has been revealed that in October 2,979 people were out of work in the town, compared to 3,766 a year ago.
The falling job figures, published by the Tees Valley Joint Strategy Unit, came just days after Garland's Call Centre announced it was creating 400 jobs at the marina.
Councillor Arthur Preece, leader of Hartlepool Borough Council, said: "It is encouraging that, once again, unemployment has fallen.
"The good news announced at Garland's should also start to have an impact in the new year.
"However, we should not become complacent and everyone must continue to work together to retain existing jobs and create even more new ones in the future."
On-going regeneration work was also boosted recently when Hartlepool won about £8m of Government Single Regeneration Budget (SRB) funding for the Headland, to complement two existing SRB partnerships.
A bid has also been submitted for New Deal for Communities cash, which could result in tens of millions of pounds being made available over a ten-year period in the centre of the town.
