IAN Macdonald is settling in to his new role as head of Darlington CID.
The 40-year-old policeman has taken over from Detective Chief Inspector Dave Jones as crime manager of the Darlington force.
Detective Chief Inspector Macdonald, who is married with one child, has moved from police headquarters in Durham, where he worked in the community safety branch of CID.
It is the first time he has worked in the south of the county, and he says he is looking forward to the challenge of leading the CID team.
"I know I have inherited an excellent CID department in Darlington," he said.
"The stamp I want to put on the job is to continue to reduce levels of crime in the town, both through prevention and detection."
In his spare time, Det Chief Insp Macdonald enjoys playing golf, and plays off a handicap of seven.
