SCHOOLCHILDREN in Middlesbrough were given the chance to meet some of the country's top authors as part of the Northern Children's Book Festival last week.
The authors, visited schools and libraries throughout the borough to take part in various events and activities designed to bring books alive for children, and promote reading for pleasure.
Organised by a committee of children's and education librarians from the regional library authorities local festival events, it was coordinated by Caryn Annal and Rita Wilson, education support librarians from Middlesbrough Libraries.
One of the main events was last Friday, when author Robin Jarvis, visited Easterside Library before opening the new library at Newlands School.
The pupils at Newlands designed models and pictures, based upon Robin Jarvis's characters which are on display in the library and at Easterside Library.
The publishers also donated books to be used as prizes for the best designs
