Four students from a martial arts club in Middlesbrough have struck gold while representing their country at two different world championships while two more won silver medals.
The six members of the Scorpio Freestyle Club, based in Park End Community Centre in Overdale Road, were all competing for Great Britain having achieved success at various competitions throughout the country earlier in the year.
Fourteen-year old Danielle Yare of South Bank won her gold at the World Karate Assocation championships in the light-contact under-45k section while competing in Prague.
The remaining five traveled to Sicily to compete in the World United Marshall Arts championships where Cherelle McGlade, 12, won gold in the under-155cm light contact section.
Hannah Swales,15, took gold in the over-155cm light-contact section while Andrew Storey of South Bank completed the gold haul with victory in the over-160cm light-contact section.
Nicola Hutchinson of Middlesbrough won a silver medal in the over-155cm semi-contact section while Dean Wilson won a silver in the 90 kilo full contact section.
Coach Andrew Hutchison praised the students saying: "All six have done tremendously well and trained very hard to be in the international squad."
