Durham County champion Matthew Hurst added two more titles to his collection at the weekend when he won the Durham Under-21 Restricted Championship Singles and Doubles titles.
The 17-year-old from Thorpe Larches, Stockton, became Durham County Champion when he won the seniors' event in September and with the aide of doubles partner Kevin Raper won two Under-21 trophies at the Gateshead International Stadium on Sunday.
He beat Graham Onions, 18, in the singles final 15-8, 15-2, 15-3 and alongside Raper, 20, beat Alan Percivil, 20, and Onions, 15-7, 15-4.
In two national competitions recently Matthew achieved success when he reached the semi finals in both the singles and doubles at the Notts-Derby in Nottingham and he got as far as the semis in the doubles and the final in the singles in an Under-19 tournament in Wimbledon.
Matthew makes his England Under-19 debut tonight in Northumberland when he competes in a team event against Wales and Scotland although he has represented his country before in the Under-12, Under-15 and Under-17 age groups.
His Dad Ron is obviously proud of his son's achievements saying: "He's always been a top lad in Durham and he's represented England at every level.
"He started when he was about seven or eight years old and he's always been good. He was a natural."
Tomorrow sees the commencement of the individual championship against players from the same countries where Matthew hopes to repeat his Durham success.
