North East Counties Fell Racing Championships
Alison Raw (Darlington Harriers) won in fine style at the Lordstones Race across the North York Moors from Kirby. She completed the 14-miles course in 113.59, winning by almost four minutes from Kendra White (Quakers) with former Mandale Harrier Sue Webb in third place. New Marske Harriers took the team title.
It was a triple triumph for Brian Roberts in the men's race. Not only did he win gold in the senior event, but led his Mandale squad to the team title and was also leading veteran.

Crook & District AC
A depleted team had to be content with ninth place in Division One of the Harrier League meeting at Consett.
Kevin Archer ran the muddy course in an excellent 32.59. John Dennis ran 34.38, Geoff Hewitson 36.43, Martin Harbisher 37.04, Dennis Brown 37.10, Colin Everson 38.38,Percy Parkin 40.05, Paul Smith 41.36, John Butler 46.12 and Robert Thompson 47.16.
The previous day at the Brampton-Carlisle 10 miler Mike Mallen battled a strong head-wind to finish 33rd in a time of 58.39, followed by Ray Partridge in 60.03 ,Gerry Hehir and Martin Lowrie together ran 69.32.
Darlington Harriers and AC
The second fixture of the NYSD cross country league fixture was held at Hartlepool on a wet, undulating course. There was a poor turnout of the younger members.
Results: U-13 girls: 16th Helen Moore, 18.07.
U-13 boys: 18th Jamie Rutherford, 17.47.
U-15 girls: 25th Jenna Read, 20.47.
U-15 boys: 9th Daniel Purdie, 15.05; 15th Andrew Smith, 16.42; 21st Gary Johnson, 17.41; 26th Clint Teeny (making his debut), 21.41.
Team: 3rd.
Senior women: 4th Bernadette Taylor, 19.22 and leading the competition, 63rd Sandy Thorne-Wallis, 29.40; 67th Jill Wallis, 31.32.
U-17 men: 12th Richard Smith, 28.04.
Senior men: 18th Nigel Orr, 35.06; 46th Martin Grainger, 37.11; 56th Ben Wilson, 37.53; 72nd John Best, 39.06; 90th Ron Read, 39.55; 100th Hon Lee, 40.26; 110th Paul Smith, 41.30; 119th Jack Mason, 42.32; 154th Ian Barnes, 46.59; 167th Dave Cottam, 49.24.
Team: 9th.
Ian Barnes finished eight overall in the male 65 section representing England in the Five nations Veterans cross country race in Dublin on November 18. Ian also received a gold medal as a member of the successful England winning team.
Emma Clifford picked up two bronze medals in the 60m and 600m at the winter indoor grand prix series for minor athletes held at Monkton Stadium, Jarrow, on November 19.
