THE Mayor of Middlesbrough will today launch the town's contribution to a national environment campaign.
Middlesbrough's Slim Your Bin project is part of the Government's Doing Your Bit campaign to cut down on unnecessary waste.
Slim Your Bin aims to cut down on the 24 million tonnes of household rubbish collected each year by encouraging recycling and composting. The Mayor, Councillor Kath Bevington, said: "There are so many simple ways of cutting down on waste.
"We've made it easier in Middlesbrough recently by introducing the 'blue bag' scheme, where we collect newspapers and magazines for recycling.
" I hope the campaign will make people think about the environment.
