RUDOLPH the reindeer and his friends arrived in the region yesterday to join in a community carnival.
The event, part of Middlesbrough's Ice Festival, attracted thousands of people to the town centre, where youngsters were also given the chance to meet TV favourite Bob the Builder.
Bruce Edwards, from Magic 1170, who acted as Santa, was joined by more than 100 youngsters in a display of song and dance.
The carnival, which was organised by local arts company Bravura, comprised vibrant costumes, colours and characters including Lady Ice, Jack Frost and thousands of snowflakes.
Chris Robson, Middlesbrough Borough Council's commissioner for culture and sport, said: "It was a very exciting day to come to Middlesbrough. Not only did we have the reindeer parade and community carnival, but there was also the Victorian craft fair taking place in the town hall courtyard.
