ROYAL Marine Neal Curry has been awarded the green beret, the hallmark of commando troops.
Mr Curry, 22, from Newton Aycliffe, has become a Royal Marine Commando after completing a gruelling 30-week course at the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines, in Devon.
"Commando training is well known for its intensity, but everything we do is progressive, enabling people with all standards of fitness to achieve the final goal," said Mr Curry, a former pupil at Woodham Comprehensive School, in Newton Aycliffe, near Darlington.
A half-mile cross-country run going through tunnels and water hazard, followed by a four-mile run back to the camp, were among the challenges Mr Curry had to overcome.
