AN Oxford don has attended a North-East college to dispel myths about the university and encourage applications from state-educated youngsters.
Students from Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College, Darlington, and its feeder schools, took part in workshops about Oxford University. The event was led by Ed Peel, of Keble College, Oxford. He was joined by three of the university's students from the North-East.
Queen Elizabeth teacher Simon Nicholson, who organised the day, said: "County Durham is very much under-represented at both Oxford and Cambridge. Oxford, in particular, is trying to raise its profile, dispel myths and raise young people's aspirations."
