YOUNGSTERS in Thornaby are hoping to be given a new centre that will enable them to put their dreams into action.
The Five Lamps Organisation has applied to Stockton Borough Council's planning committee to demolish the Walkers Bingo Hall, in the town's Thornaby Road/ Lanehouse Road, and build a two storey youth enpowerment centre.
It follows a mass consultation exercise.
Jacqui Gregory, executive officer at the Five Lamps Organisation said: "It is going to be a centre for young people in Thornaby, offering a range of activities, which were suggested by the young people after 1,000 of them filled in a questionnaire."
Suggestions include having a non-alcoholic Internet cafe, climbing wall and an events area.
The facility, for 11 to 23 year-olds, would also provide art and craft workshops and fashion design classes.
Ms Gregory said: "It would be very multi-purpose."
The organisation hopes to have it up and running before Christmas next year
