TEN of Britain's best playwrights with North-East connections are about to launch a series of monologues created for Newcastle's Live Theatre.
Comedy writer Ian La Frenais has joined names such as Alan Plater, Peter Flannery (Our Friends in the North), Tom Hadaway and Michael Chaplin in helping Lee Hall, of Billy Elliot fame, to produce theatre nights from tonight until December 14.
Top North-East-based actors including Trevor Fox, Libby Davison, Joe Caffrey, Tracy Whitwell, Deka Walmsley and Carol McGuigan, will perform the characters set around a Tyneside karaoke night.
Called ne1, the event also includes works by up-and-coming writers Rachel Mathews and Carina Rodney.
