A POISON pen letter writer who brought misery to a Teesside estate has been released on bail after appealing against a prison term.
Andrew Bewley, 39, formerly of Wharfedale Close, Ingleby Barwick, was sentenced to two months after admitting criminal damage, harassment, and making a threat to destroy property.
Teesside magistrates heard how the senior Teesside University administrator sent anonymous, foul-mouthed, threatening letters to others in his cul-de-sac. He hoped blame would fall on his neighbour Annette Dales, and her three children, forcing them to move.
However, Bewley was caught on closed-circuit television, damaging Mrs Dales' property, and he was arrested.
After Bewley was jailed, his lawyers appealed against the sentence as grossly excessive.
A judge at Teesside Crown Court granted bail until the appeal is heard in a fortnight.
Bewley has been ordered not to approach eight residents of Wharfedale Close
