DURHAM City could be in line for a new ambulance station in a shake-up of the region's 999 service.
The North-East Ambulance Trust is looking to establish a base at the Territorial Army Centre, in Gilesgate, on the outskirts of the city centre.
Two emergency ambulances presently operate from Dryburn Hospital. If the plans come to fruition, three vehicles will operate from the two sites.
A base at Gilesgate would give crews easier access to the east of the city and the A1(M).
The trust has submitted plans to Durham City Council for the conversion of a garage at the TA Centre into a two-bay ambulance station.
The service shake-up is designed to meet tougher 999 response time standards
