POLICE are warning parents that their children are still at risk despite a man being arrested in connection with attempted abductions.
Officers arrested a 33-year-old man on Monday, a week after they first urged parents to be on their guard after eight attempted snatches in East Cleveland and North Yorkshire.
The man, who is from East Cleveland, was held in custody overnight at Redcar police station, before being released on bail pending further inquiries.
In an attempt to remind parents of the dangers, police have repeated an appeal for them to keep a close eye on their children.
Detective Sergeant Nick Owen of Redcar CID said: "We still want to hear from anyone who can help us with these inquiries - just because someone has been questioned, it does not mean that there is not a danger on the streets for young children.
"People should take care, particularly with the dark nights. The simple message is always say 'no' to strangers."
Police say they have been encouraged by the public response to an appeal for information about a man in a red car who tried to entice youngsters into it, particularly in the Skelton and Brotton areas.
They urge anyone who can help with the inquiry to ring Redcar CID in confidence on (01642) 302 641.
