THERE were lots of moments to savour on Local Heroes Awards night - but there was one which particularly captured the spirit of the event.
Aidan Dees, an 11-year-old footballer from Durham Johnston School, had been highly commended in the Under-16 Special Achievement category.
He'd been beaten to the award by Richard Lawson, a young boy with acute haemophilia, who had overcome his illness to gain a black belt in taisudo, and captain his school roller-hockey team.
At the end of the night - a night fit for heroes - young Aidan was seen walking across to Richard's table to shake his hand and say "congratulations".
Who says the young people of today aren't worth putting in the spotlight?
