TEES Rowing Club has enjoyed one of its most successful seasons for many years, winning no less than 48 trophies.
At the club's annual meeting on Monday, president Ian Godman congratulated retiring captain Paul Buckworth, who had led the club for the past three years. The wins were spread over the full spectrum of age groups, from the youngest 12-year-old juniors up to the most senior veterans.
Kate O'Sullivan reported that the annual regatta held in May on the Barrage course at Stockton had again been voted one of the best in the region and treasurer Jane Vaslet told the meeting that new equipment for the junior section will be purchased shortly with the aid of sponsorship from Sondes Engineering and Sportsmatch.
The Tees was well represented at York Small Boats Head of the River Race last weekend.
Competitors from all four Tees clubs - Tees Rowing Club, Yarm School Rowing Club, University of Teesside Rowing Club and University of Durham Stockton Campus Boat Club - were in action alongside almost 200 other entries from all over the north of England.
Hosts York City Rowing Club put on an excellent day's racing which resulted in a number of wins for our local clubs.
Tees RC won the veteran C fours and the veteran B single sculls through Johnny Cooper. Yarm School won the junior 18 quadruple sculls and the University of Teesside won the senior 2 coxless pairs.
For their final competition of the year, Tees rowers will be at the Rutherford Head of the River Race from Scotswood to Newburn on the River Tyne on December 9
