A RICHMOND chef can boast he is among the best in the Royal Air Force.
Neil Martin was among 50 taking part in a Combined Services Culinary Competition, in Hampshire, and left with two medals to pin to his chest.
A silver came for his chicken breast, stuffed with wild mushrooms and sun-dried tomatoes, and he also scooped bronze on the open field cookery class.
Neil, a former pupil at Risedale Community College, in Catterick Garrison, is now serving at RAF Bruggen, in Germany, but has travelled all over the world, with postings to Gibraltar and the Ascension Islands.
He said: "This was my first year at the competition and I really enjoyed the experience. Events like this give us all a chance to demonstrate our skills and to sample some friendly rivalry.
"I always wanted to be a chef in the armed forces, and awards like these are a real bonus, especially when you win medals. However, medals are only gained by hard work.
