CHILDREN have been learning how to play a useful role in society as part of a new partnership.
Fifty ten and 11-year-olds from Marton Grove Primary School, Middlesbrough, took part in a course organised by Cleveland Police, Middlesbrough Borough Council and Home Housing Association.
Every Friday, they looked at issues such as how people can support each other, having pride in their community, and how to get involved to stop vandalism and graffiti.
They will visit the Riverside Stadium next month, and sign promise cards committing them to positive actions for their communities.
Anne Huntington, of Home Housing, said: "This was the first time that we have been involved in this sort of partnership. It has been very rewarding both for us and the children, and I hope that we can make it a regular feature at the school."
Chris Gent, the school's headteacher, said: "The children found the work very interesting. I was very impressed at their concern and commitment for their communities.
