A TREASURE trove of memories has been collected to portray the colourful history of an East Durham town.
Entitled "Memories of Seaham'', the book is published by County Durham Books, the publishing arm of Durham County Council's Arts Libraries and Museums department.
More than 40 photographs, ranging from parades of church choirs and views of Seaham docks, to public houses in the 1950s and street parties, provide a nostalgic look back at the town which can trace its roots back to Anglo-Saxon times.
In the past, Seaham was a thriving industrial centre.
The town boasted industries including coal mining, bottle making, waterworks, railways and docks.
Many of the photographs depict scenes from these industries, including shots of Vane Tempest, Dawdon and Seaham collieries.
Part of a series of "Memories" books, the new publication is available from County Durham libraries and local bookshops at £2.95
