AN armed robber accidentally shot himself during a bungled off-licence raid.
The raider was helped from the premises, in Newcastle's West End, by an accomplice, after shooting himself in the foot.
He burst into the Boozbusters store wearing a stocking mask, and brandishing what was described as a double-barrelled shotgun.
Staff hesitated when told to hand over money, and the man began shouting orders.
But he had to abort the raid when the weapon went off, causing a wound to his foot.
He was forced to make a swift departure, hobbling away with assistance from an accomplice, who had been waiting outside.
Police said none of the staff was injured and no money was taken.
Three people were arrested shortly afterwards and were yesterday helping police with their inquiries.
Witnesses to the raid, at about 8.45pm on Saturday, are asked to contact Newcastle West CID on 0191-214 6555
