A Darlington school hosted a seminar on new guidance for carrying out assessments of children in need and their families.
Hummersknott School welcomed representatives from Darlington Borough Council, County Durham and Darlington Priority Services NHS Trust, South Durham Health Care NHS Trust, and Darlington Primary Care Group.
A spokesman for the council said: "The main thrust of the guidance is that children and families have needs which arise as a result of a combination of factors.
"These are the needs of children themselves, in respect of health, education and self-care skills, coupled with the ability of parents to provide warmth, safety and stability, and environmental factors such as income, employment and housing.
"Such multiple needs require partnership between the various professional bodies, and a special task group is now working on ways of putting the guidance into practice."
