AN elderly couple killed in a road accident have been named by police.
Edmond Pinkney, 82, and his 87-year-old wife, Kathleen, from Billingham, on Teesside, died when their Seat Ibiza was in collision with a Saab on the A19 at Dalton Lodge, near the A689 turn-off at Hartlepool, at 11am on Friday.
A police spokeswoman said: "It looks like they have been attempting to cross the A19 and must have misjudged how fast the other car was travelling.
"The man in the second vehicle didn't have a chance to do anything. There's no blame on him."
The driver of the Saab was taken to hospital suffering from shock and slight injuries
