PLANS to extend a quarry near Ripon have been opposed by city councillors.
They fear the extension of the Hanson Aggregates Ripon Quarry site, at North Stainley, would cause extra traffic to use the Clock Tower junction, in Ripon, and bring extra lorries to the North Stainley area.
Hambleton District Council and Tanfield Parish Council are also objecting to the scheme, being considered by North Yorkshire County Council.
A Ripon City Council spokesman said ten councillors had voted against the plan, with two abstaining.
Noise issues, construction traffic, and the fact that the development had not been earmarked in the local plan were all concerns raised.
As part of its expansion plans Hanson Aggregates wants to build a processing plant, and new access to its operation.
