Redcar town centre is to get a millennium present, thanks to the town's Rotary Club.
The club proposed that a new four-metre high clock feature should be installed at the eastern end of the High Street, opposite Bath Street as a momento of the new millennium.
Dr Joan Rees, director of the economy and the environment for Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council told members of the council executive, who met on Tuesday, that the project will cost £11,734.
The club has already raised almost £5,000, and Cleveland Arts has a fund of more than £7,000 for the project.
The clock will be maintained by the council's technical services department
