HOTEL staff and customers have turned into secret Santas to collect gifts for hospital-bound children.
More than 35 children, aged between three and six, in the disability unit of Cleveland Hospital will be given gifts supplied by the Talpore Beefeater and Travel Inn.
The presents were provided by staff and guests, who worked together to establish a "giving tree".
Martin Hugill, manager of the inn, at the Tees Barrage, said: "Hospital is the last place any of us want to be at Christmas, and we wanted to make it a little easier for the youngsters. On the branches of the giving tree hang the names of the children in hospital, and Talpore staff and customers take a card from it and buy a small gift suitable for the child.
"This year, staff have organised for a bus to bring the children to the restaurant, where they will meet Father Christmas and enjoy a Christmas dinner before opening their gifts."
Peter Lynn, for Whitbread, which owns the Talpore, said: "The Talpore's giving tree is an excellent idea for staff and customers to take part in. Everyone involved has given very generously and I have no doubt that the children will have a wonderful time celebrating Christmas at the restaurant."
