A CHRISTMAS carol service taking place in the region will boost efforts to tackle childhood cancer.
The Star of Hope carol service, being organised by the Cancer Research Campaign, is being held for the first time in Darlington, County Durham.
The venue will be the 11th Century St Cuthbert's Church, with the church choir being joined by that of Darlington's Polam Hall School.
Jill Collier, the charity's events fundraiser, said: "This is the Cancer Research Campaign's first ever carol service in Darlington.
"People don't need to buy a ticket to come along. They just turn up on the night, and at the end we'll invite them to make a donation to our children's cancer appeal.
"The money will go towards finding better treatments to save the lives of more children."
The service is on Wednesday, December 20, from 7.30pm. From 5pm, people will be able to light a candle in the church grounds in dedication of a loved one.
