Heighington Show is no more after more than a century.
The show committee met in the village hall for the annual meeting. Although the meeting was well advertised, only two women of the village other than the committee attended, and so with no more support or interest from villagers, the final decision was made. The show is finished.
There have been 123 shows held in Heighington, the last one being in 1999. The show has some funds and it was decided that a small donation would be made to four village organisations: Heighington and Redworth village halls, St Michael's church and the Methodist church.
The remainder of the funds are to be held in trust to be available for any person or group which might come forward with a viable suggestion for an appropriate village activity or event that would replace the show.
In order to judge the merits of any suggestions, a committee of six was elected: they are Stephen Cooper, Les Blades, George Foggo, Daniel Hunter and Margaret and Robert Hewitson.
If anyone has an idea that might quality for show funds, contact Mr Cooper on 01325 320467 or Mr Hunter on 01325 315325
