CONTINGENCY plans have been set up in case more heavy rain falls in Cleveland over Christmas.
Five operational centres have been designated, each with a store of 2,000 sandbags. Plant and equipment will also be on standby, ready to move within a couple of hours in case the weather takes a turn for the worse.
The five centres are the old school in Skinningrove, Loftus Town Hall, Margrove Park, near Guisborough, the council depot at Dormanstown and the Grangetown opportunities centre. Equipment includes two large pumps with hoses to pump culverts and watercourses, five small pumps and a fleet of vehicles.
Rest centres have been earmarked, at Rosecroft school. Loftus, Rye Hills school, Redcar ,and Gillbrook college, South Bank.
