SCORES of householders in Hartlepool can rest easier in the knowledge that their homes are safer than ever.
About 200 properties in the Throston and Clavering areas have been fitted with mains-powered smoke detectors, courtesy of Hartlepool Borough Council's North Neighbourhood Forum.
The £16,000 programme of installation has been carried out in two phases, using money from the forum's minor works budget, and the council's challenge fund.
The result is that all council properties at Clavering now have detectors, as do 116 bungalows and 69 flats at Throston.
The homes to benefit are outside the North Hartlepool Single Regeneration Budget Partnership area where similar, separately-funded schemes have been running.
