RESIDENTS and community workers who brought extra resources and education to St Helen Auckland, near Bishop Auckland, have received an award at the House of Lords.
The St Helen Network was selected for a commendation in the British Urban Regeneration Association's Charitable Trust Awards.
Project staff and local volunteers have provided the community with extra facilities, including a laundrette and caf.
They have also run vocational and leisure-based courses, in conjuncton with Bishop Auckland College, from five converted houses in Melrose Drive.
The group, which received a commendation for best practice in community regeneration, was presented with the award by Lord Hunt of Wirral.
Lil Cassie, one of the project staff, said: "This national recognition is well-deserved by the local people who have worked so hard over the past three years to make the project a success."
