TWO Darlington schoolboy engineers who won a national competition have been invited to Downing Street.
Tim Latter and Alex Strachan, both pupils at Hurworth House School, will be in London tomorrow to meet the Prime Minister and Mrs Blair to discuss their award-winning enterprise.
The 13-year-olds were winners in the schools section of the Metrology for World Class Engineering award, sponsored by the National Physical Laboratory.
Tim and Alex spent a week of their summer holidays looking at the efficiency of water wheels. They built a model wheel in Tim's garage and covered it with meters and counters to measure the speed, energy consumption and power output.
In September, the boys and their parents were guests at the gala awards dinner at the NEC in Birmingham. They received prizes of £100 each and £500 for the school's science department.
Tim was involved in more excitement on Saturday when he and school pal John Harland were invited to take part in BBC TV's Techo Games
