A NORTH-EAST hospital trust has been given a clean bill of health by a national watchdog.
The Commission for Health Improvement has published its first reviews of hospitals.
In the next four years, comission officials will visit every hospital, health authority, primary care trust and NHS trust in England in Wales.
The first report focuses on three NHS trusts, including the City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Trust.
A commission spokesman said: "The trust has developed a range of systems to support a high standard of patient care and has a very good foundation from which to develop its arrangements for clinical governance. There is a high level of commitment to patient care across the trust."
The review praised the Wearside trust's "strong performance culture", which has enabled it to score well on treating patients quickly and managing finances.
The spokesman said: "The trust board will want to consider whether this culture needs to be adapted to deliver as effectively on all the key aspects of clinical governance."
