CONTRASTING choral works on a festive theme will be performed in a Christmas concert at Durham Cathedral.
The English Philharmonic Orchestra and a line up-of five acclaimed vocal soloists will perform in Friday's seasonal treat for music lovers.
Bach's Magnificat and Charpentier's Messe de Minuit, or Midnight Mass, will be separated by Vaughan-Williams' seasonal Fantasia on Christmas Carols.
As the concert also marks the 250th anniversary of the death of JS Bach, it will open with his Suite No 3 in D, famous for its slow movement, Air on a G String.
Cornish mezzo-soprano Suzanne Manuel heads the list of vocalists, also including Middlesbrough-born soprano Suzannah Clarke, plus Francis Coad, Jason Darnell and Mark Rowlinson.
The chorus is provided by Newcastle's St Thomas Singers, making a rare appearance in the cathedral, while the orchestra will be conducted by David Haslam.
Tickets, priced at £24.50 and £14.50, are available from Durham Tourist Information Centre, on 0191-384 3720. Concessions are also available.
The cathedral doors open at 6.45pm, with the concert getting under way at 7.30pm
