A BRAVE bus driver was praised by his bosses last night for continuing with his shift, minutes after being threatened by a knife-wielding thug.
The driver, who has not been named, was picking up passengers in Bishop Auckland Bus Station, County Durham, at 11pm on Wednesday, when an attacker jumped on the bus, brandished a knife at him and demanded money.
The thug fled empty-handed when the 35-year-old driver hit a panic alarm.
The driver, who was shaken but unhurt, then continued with his eight passengers to Tow Law and finished his shift an hour later.
His bosses at Arriva North-East commended the bravery of their driver, who has worked for the company for four years.
"He showed remarkable courage during the unfortunate incident and displayed such devotion to duty that he even carried on with his shift to make sure passengers got home," said a spokesman.
"He is now taking a well- earned rest at home and we wish him well."
Police are appealing for witnesses to the attack to contact them, and in particular want to speak to any of the passengers.
A 17-year-old youth was charged last night with attempted robbery, affray and assault. He will appear before Sedgefield Youth Court this morning.
Anyone with information should contact Bishop Auckland CID on (01388) 603566.
