A DECISION on plans for a greenhouse beside the grade one-listed Mortham Tower, close to the 18th Century Rokeby Hall, near Greta Bridge, Teesdale, has been deferred.
Teesdale District Council's development control committee voted to delay a decision on the scheme after it was revealed that members had been sent further information about the application, which planning officers had not received.
The application is for a black aluminium framed greenhouse to grow fruit and vegetables.
At the meeting, councillors were told that a report by English Heritage had described the tower as of "outstanding significance", and that the proposed greenhouse would not be in keeping with the surrounding buildings.
Reservations about the plans had also been expressed by the Durham County Council's design specialist, who described the site as unsuitable for a development of the type being proposed
Teesdale District Council planning officers had also recommended that planning consent should be refused.
The application will be discussed at the next meeting of Teesdale District Council's development control committee.
