SUPPORT for a programme of Durham County Cricket Club coaching clinics starting next month has come from Wolsingham Comprehensive School in Weardale.
The school is aiming to build on the success it has already achieved with its Under-13s and Under-15s sides in the South-West Durham Schools Cricket League and the victory of its six-a-side side in the Wear Valley section of the Durham County Millennium Youth Games this summer.
Willy Bell, head of boys PE at Wolsingham, points to the recruitment of pupils by clubs like Bishop Auckland, Etherley, Crook and Willington as a measure of the success the school is having with its cricket curriculum.
The school is particularly proud of the achievements of 15-year-old Chris Moore, who captained the county's Under-15s side last season.
Wolsingham has already enjoyed the services of John Wood and Richard Manuel from Durham County for a series of coaching sessions and it sees the new programme, led by pace bowler Neil Killeen, as another positive step in trying to bring on young talent.
