A carol service is to boost efforts to tackle childhood cancer.
The Star of Hope carol service, being organised by the Cancer Research Campaign, is being held for the first time in Darlington.
The venue will be the eleventh century St Cuthbert's Church and the service its church choir and that of Darlington's Polam Hall School.
Jill Collier, events fundraiser with the Cancer Research Campaign, said: "This is the Cancer Research Campaign's first ever carol service in Darlington. People don't need to buy a ticket to come along, they just turn up on the night and at the end we'll invite them to make a donation to our children's cancer appeal. The money raised will go towards helping to find new cures and better treatments to save the lives of more children."
The service is on Wednesday from 7.30pm. From 5pm people will be able to light a candle in the church grounds in dedication of a loved one they may have lost.
