MERCURY bridge, Richmond, fully reopens to traffic on Thursday after a six-month closure because of extensive flood damage in June.
To allow the carriageway to be resurfaced first, however, the bridge will be closed to all traffic from 7am tomorrow until noon on Sunday. Repairs will then be done to the parapet by skilled stonemasons.
Normal bus services across the bridge will resume from lunchtime next Thursday and the free bus service provided by the county council to link both sides of the river will continue until 6pm that day.
Total cost of rebuilding the bridge will top the £2m mark, according to latest estimates.
Rebuilding the parapet may not be completed before Christmas and it may be necessary to protect it with barriers
