WINNERS of a driving scheme in Redcar have been awarded prizes.
More than 200 16-year-olds attended the Megadrive competition, in October, when they were given a taste of life on the road and the responsibilities of owning and driving a car.
A competition gave them the chance to put their new-found knowledge to the test, in a bid to win free driving lessons.
Yesterday, the six winners were presented with their prizes.
Organiser PC Vic Kendall, of Langbaurgh police, said: "Yet again the Megadrive scheme proved a hit with the youngsters in the area.
"With more than £300 worth of driving lessons kindly donated by the sponsors, there were a huge number of high quality entrants.
"However, we've noticed a distinct lack of females keen to commit to the scheme this year.
"Last year, our second finalist was a girl, but this year all six finalists have been boys - although I am sure there are many girls just as keen to take to the roads as there are boys.
