Mandale Harriers
The Under-17 team were in excellent form at the North-East Indoor championships, making a clean sweep of all the jumping events. Michael Ball was in superb form, clearing every height up to 1.90m with first attempts to claim the title and was sixth in the triple jump which he saw as a warm-up event.
Anthony Bibby, although carrying an injury sustained when starring for the Yorkshire Rugby Union team, bounded out to 13.01 to claim the triple jump title and also get a personal best of 5.97 in his first long jump competition for sixth spot.
The long jump provided the most exciting competition with Svote Nyananyo winning gold on his final attempt to set a personal best of 6.25 but unfortunately this pushed his training partner out of the bronze medal place. Nonetheless, last year's Under-15 champion set new figures of 6.04 for fourth place.
In the girl's age group Joanne Pybus took the silver medal just ahead of her team mate Nicola McTaggart.
In the Under-20 age group more medals came to Teesside with last year's Under-17 champion Mark Bruce winning the junior title with 12.35 of his first year in their age group. Peter Vickers, last year's Under-17 bronze medallist, took bronze again with 15.68m.
