THE mother-of-two who collapsed when she saw her son killed in a garden accident died in hospital yesterday.
Christine Veitch, 28, swallowed her tongue in a panic attack on Tuesday when she saw nine-year-old Robert slip and fatally hit his head on their garden path.
Mrs Veitch, 28, was taken to the intensive care unit at Sunderland Royal Hospital and later moved to a ward.
Her husband, Rob, 30, and daughter Louise, seven, were last night being comforted by family and friends.
A police spokeswoman said: "A family liaison officer has been with them."
Tragedy struck after Robert visited his grandmother, Bernadette, in St John's Vale, Pennywell, Sunderland. He was returning to his home nearby when he slipped.
Paramedics called to the house tried unsuccessfully to revive the boy at the scene and he was certified dead on arrival at Sunderland Royal Hospital
